If so, Bienvenido! … Welcome to Puerto Vallarta’s Velas Vallarta Resort, an all-inclusive resort owned by the award-winning Velas Group.

My family and I had the pleasure of staying in this all-suite hotel with its magical Mexican ambiance back in 1997. When we were recently invited to return to Velas Vallarta, we were delighted, but wondered if the past 18 years would have taken a toll on this resort.

Not at all! She has aged with dignity, and undoubtedly with the requisite make-overs to keep her looking young and fresh and still as enchanting and breath-taking to behold as she was when we first laid eyes on her. Plus, she is updated with more to offer the savvy traveler in terms of comfort, cuisine and activities.

While closeby to Puerto Vallarta’s famed nightlife, art galleries and gourmet restaurants … which have sprung up over the years thanks to the fame brought to this once sleepy town by Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor during the 1963 filming of John Houston’s Night of the Iguana … Velas Vallarta offers a wide assortment of gourmet Mexican and Italian food along with fresh local seafood. What do you do after dinner if you don’t feel like sampling some of PV’s nightlife? Enjoy traditional Mexican entertainment in one of the resort’s airy reception halls or simply take a romantic stroll on the beach and listen to the sound of the waves. You can lose your heart to this place and like us … look forward to returning again and again. http://www.velasvallarta.com

I’ve been reading about security issues in Puerta Vallarta due to drug cartel violence. Having just returned from Turkey and Israel—also places with security concerns, I realize that sometimes security warnings are overblown, but what is your assessment of the current situation there?

Suzanne, we felt totally safe throughout our trip to Mexico, which included not only Puerto Vallarta but also drives thru the state of Jalisco and stays in Tequila and Guadalajara. At no time did we have any concerns and I do think that security issues are overblown in the media when it comes to areas such as Puerto Vallarta.

I’ve always loved PV ever since it was a quick trip when I lived in SoCal. The resort looks beautiful.
